The
Digital
Atelier® held
a
workshop
at
the
Rocky
Mountain
Digital
Arts
Center
in
May,
2001.
"Beyond
the
Digital
Print" was
a
3-day
hands-on
workshop
focusing
on
combining
digital
and
traditional
media
in
medium
and
large
format
prints.
It
was
designed
for
artists
of
all
skill
levels
who
wanted
to
explore
new
ways
of
making
prints
from
their
digital
files.
The
emphasis
was
on
printmaking.
The
workshop
included:
selecting
from
commercially
available
precoated
papers,
canvas
and
other
products
printing
on backlit,
translucent
and transparent
materials
for illuminated
images
making
custom
substrates
on which
to print
or transfer
(including
fresco
and other
textured
surfaces)
using
the digital
print
as a ground
for traditional
media
such as
encaustic,
paint
and collage
making
hand-pulled
monotypes
from digital
transfers
producing "digital
skins",
an emulsion-type
transfer
for rough
and irregular
surface
using
precoats
and postcoats
demonstration
of digital
imaging
to textiles
using
the Mutoh
Falcon
Each
of
the
processes
was
introduced
and
assisted.
In
addition
to
the
class
sessions,
there
were
open
lab-times
with
Macintosh
computers
available
to
work
on
images
and
instructors
consulting
one-on-one.

Participants
had
time
to
complete
several
prints
using
a variety
of processes.
Output
was
on Epson
7500
inkjet
printers.
