"At the Edge"
A Portfolio of Digigraphy
Boston, MA, 1998

In April 1998, in celebration of Mass Art's 125 birthday, Dorothy Slmpson Krause, Karin Schminke and Bonny Lhotka spent two weeks as Artists-in-Residence. They produced a portfolio of six digital transfers, digigraphs. The images were printed using the 3M Cactus RIP on the Encad Novajet Pro 50 on QIS film and transferred to Arches 30" x 22" rag paper in an edition of 30. Accompanied by an essay written by Dr. Francine Koslow Miller, the completed portfolio was presented to Kay Sloan, MassArt's President for use in the college's fundraising efforts. At a retail price of $800 per image, the value of the college's fifteen portfolios of six images is $72,000; this gift was matched by the State of Massachusetts.

During their residency at the college, they were filmed for a segment in the 12 hour ABC News Special, "History of the Twentieth Century". They will introduce the program entitled "Exploring the Unknown" which focuses on flight, space, the atomic age and computer technology. They also hosted a lunch-time presentation and a day-long seminar, "Beyond the Digital Print" sharing the processes they have developed with the college community and participants from across the country.
